What did the hand say to the face? SLAP!

Well the skies have opened up and given us our biggest single day snow total of the season just four days before closing! While I'm pretty exited about getting up there this afternoon and schromping the gnar, it doesn't change the fact that the mountain will be closed with the best conditions of the year. Just when I was beginning to wrap my head around the fact that the season was over and look forward to the spring and everything I could do when all the snow was gone...POW!!!

Apex

People often enter the shop look around a bit then ask "What's the latest and greatest technology?". In the boot world this years latest and greatest is the Apex.

This design is a long time coming and is regularly described as genius. The Apex is the brainchild of legendary boot maker Denny Hanson. This boot features a snowboard style soft boot that fits into a carbon fiber exo-skeleton.
The idea is that you can leave the outer shell engaged in your bindings, step out, go to lunch; apres; dancing; etc. in a comfortable boot. The featured Boa lacing system keeps you snug as bug in a rug plus it's convenient, which is what this boot is all about.Available in men's and women's , the ladies version is lower volume
and has a furry cuff. This boot is not for for everyone . You won't see Bode racing in them any time soon, but for the recreational skier looking for comfort, and convenience, without going to the dark side, this could be the answer.

Spring Blues

As the spring equinox approaches, hope for another bottomless powder day starts to fade. While most of the rest of the world is rejoicing at rising temperatures and thawing yards, dreaming of golf games and dirt biking, hard core ski bums across the land slide into a deep funk. Don't get me wrong, I love spring skiing. I can't deny the joy of skiing corn snow in a t-shirt, or how how good PBR tastes after said corn skiing, but these things do signal the beginning of the end. There just aren't words to describe the melancholy that I feel knowing that I'll soon have to wait months for first tracks and face shots. Call me crazy but I just love the snow, the cold, the wind, the winter time. With time the pain will fade to a dull aching, but the longing will never go away.

We Have the Virus! (The boot, not a computer bug silly.)

There's a new A.T. boot on the market this season. It's called "The Virus". Designed by freeskiing legend Glen Plake, and brought to you by Italian boot maker Dalbello. Arguably the lightest and most articulate a.t. boot out there. It's available in three models: Lite, Tour, and Free. Pictured is the Lite. It features Pebax plastic, and intuition heat moldable liners. Also featured on all of the models is a full length Vibram sole with harder heel and toe contact points for those on DIN bindings, super sticky tread for rocky approaches,
locking two piece tongue for better ski articulation and longer strides, and clip retainers if you want to climb unbuckled. This boot is far and away the most comfortable on the climb and responsive on the descent boot I've ever toured in.
